Have question that isn't listed?  Email DCHelp@gmti.gannett.com.

Q:  Has the Java-based client for DC3 been released?
A:
Not yet.  It is still in the testing phase.  We will notify users when it it available.

Q: I need user or administration guides.  How can I obtain them?
A:
Just email Natalie at
DCHelp@gmti.gannett.com and they will be sent to you immediately.

Q:  Why can't I size the PictureDesk window on my Windows 2000 computer?
A:
Change the display setting in the "Effects" tab to deactivate the "Show Window Contents While Dragging" feature.  In Windows NT, this setting is in the "Plus!" tab.

Q:  How can I add staff names to the database so that I only have to type a few characters when adding bylines to archived stories?
A:
Type the name into the Byline field, then highlight it. Next, click on the PictureDesk menu, select Utilities, and then "Insert Item."  This will add the name permanently to the database once you log out and back into the system.

Q:  Our appleshare volume "Photo Export" has filled up, and in our /dot/support/appleshare/photoexport/ directory, there are several photos that are not visible from a Mac workstation.  Can these files be deleted and is there something we can do to prevent these files from building up?
A:
Yes, you can delete these files.  To prevent them from building up, do not use more than 31 characters to name the files. Macs cannot see files with more than 31 characters in the name, including the file extension.

Q:  /dot (or any volume) is at 100%. Nothing is processing. What should I do?
A: If you are uncomfortable with doing any of the following steps, or do not think you know enough about unix or linux, please call the Digital Collections Customer Service Center at 1-800-665-3780 for assistance. Otherwise, as digicol, login to the server via telnet and type check. This command shows which processes are supposed to be running and each mounted volume and how much space is taken by each. It also shows percentage of disk space used for each volume and the volume label on the right. (if the check command does not show the percentages and the volume labels, use the df or bdf command. These show this information only.) Be certain to check this on a regular basis so that the server does not stop unexpectedly. If a process is down (does not appear as expected) or a volume is at 100% call the support line immediately. If a volume is between 90-95% it should be okay. If you are interested in preventive maintenance, call us when the volume gets to 98% and we can clear some space so the server does not get full.

Q:  Dcphoto is not processing. No photos are going through. What should I do?

Q: Is there a new DC3 client available? How can I download the latest version?
A: Call the Digital Collections Customer Service center at 800-665-3780. The latest version of the client or Quark extension can be emailed to you right away.

Q: We are changing our IP addresses, what do we need to do for our Digital Collections system?
A: This will depend a great deal on the system you have. Please call the Customer Support Line above for help.

Q. My DC photo has seemed to stop working. How can I see what's happening with my DC photo?
A. Log on the system as digicol. Change directory to software (cds), change directory to dcphoto. Tail the log file (tail -f dcphoto.log). The log file will tell you the last file being processed to include the directory that it resides. This file can be removed. Then go back to the directory as described above and stop/start dcphoto. dcphoto_stop.sh, dcphoto_start.sh & (the & puts the process in the background).
